You know my good buddy Buck Gardner just had heart surgery which I sat and pondered the paralles to this in scripture . Scripture shows us we as humans need to have Holy Ghost Heart replacement surgery 1st as an unbeleiver then onto complete mature transformation as a beleiver. For the human heart according to scripture is deceitfully wicked above all else..
Jeremiah 17:8-10 (New King James Version) 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear[a] when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. 9 “ The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.
Now for a moment this has a bit of a sting to our self conceived self image and will then try to reason with ourselves and others that in spite of our failings we have a good heart. When in reality we have a desire to do right things due to hearing the voice of our creator as He has been speaking to our conscience(heart) during our lives. This in reality is separate from the present spiritual condition of our heart as unbeleivers or beleivers. As unbeleivers it's heart replacement with a new born again heart and for beleivers it's the transformation from old patterns from the former sinful heart to the patterns of the new heart. This is done by the continual bathing and washing of the water of Gods Holy word to replace old thought patterns and life outlooks with Gods new ones.
Ephesians 5:25-27 (New King James Version) 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
He wants to replace our heart with His heart having His word written upon it by His finger so that we may do true good works . Hence as it is written we must remain in Him and Him in us.
John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Ezekiel 11:19 (New King James Version) 19 Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them,[a] and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,
In closing if you have not made Jesus your Lord and Savior receiving a new heart and spirit that is Born Again I ask you to do so. The Savior who loves you is waiting for you and knows you by name. Secondly if you have done this ,let Gods word be written on and hidden in this new heart that we might not sin against God . Instead the old patterns of sin would be erased with our new hearts inclined onto good works according to Gods Holy word and not the practice of wicked works with men who work iniquity nor pataking any longer with them.
Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,That I might not sin against You.
Psalm 141:4 Do not incline my heart to any evil thing,To practice wicked works With men who work iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies.
