I officially ended my canadian goose quest for the 2009-2010 season this past weekend.
I hooked up with my friend and CFC'er Jim Thomas and company. We hunted a sweet little spot that was a pasture with a stream (but since all of our snow is melting you might as well call it a little river) running through the middle. As we arrived there were birds in the stream and in the field. Around 2 dozen decoys were deployed. Some floaters and full body feeders and sentry's. We lined our layouts along one bank while Andrew set up with a camera under a nearby tree.
At about 7 o'clock it was game on with some singles responding to quiet murmurs with a few double clucks.
We quickly dispatched some Kent Steel and Black Cloud at the 747's as they glided in one by one. By 8:15 ... Like someone had turned off the switch the birds were pretty much finished their morning commute. With only three birds coming into our setup, I was very grateful to end the season on a positive note.
Once again, I left my camera at home so my cell phone pics will have to do:
Here's Jack the Dog. You should have seen him jumping across the mini river. He'd give those Dock Dogs a run for their money.

First bird of the morn.

2 more to the final tally to a total of 3:
