I've been working on my duck calls and am getting pretty good (IMO) at my basic quacks, greeting, and hail calls.

BUT I just cannot get a good feeding call down. I've tried using the quick ut's, the tig-ahs, and the dig -its. Dig-its sound the best but my problem is getting the speed up. I can do it a few times slow, but whenever I try to speed things up...it turns to crap and all runs together.

Does anyone have some techniques or drills I can do to help with this?

Thank you for your time.

Things will be slow until you build up tongue strength then muscle memory...
Experiment with other reference words try "uht tuh tuh " or "diga, diga" for the roll start slow then build your speed then mix single cuts in to break it up using the reference word "chook"!
Keep in mind speed is not crucial for calling ducks it''s more of a sparratic gabble and pecking clucking and mummurs.....
Fast roll is what duck do in flight....

Hope this helps you.....

Okay, along these linds.  I'm terrible with this too.  How do you keep from spitting and locking the double reed up when doing the chuckle?

John,
I am a self taught caller, although recently have inlisted the help of some very good callers to help me, in an attempt to get better.

This is something I have noticed, the more you move the tip of your tounge the more prone you will be to spit into the call.I am learning to do some variations of the feed with the tip of my tounge anchored to the base of my bottom teeth.

try making the sound DUG-GAH Start with the tip of your tongue and roll it to the back.  Do that fast and it will sound right.  In real life birds only do that flying tho.  On the ground they do it in much shorter patterns like twos and threes.
