Hay folks my good buddy Mike reed stopped over and showed me this nee little gizmo for shaving short reed goose call reeds it is awesome!
You center and clamp this reed down and shave reed against this acrylic rod shaving the outside shoulders and tip easily and all the other tricks to shaving as well!

Shane,
Ihave never got into calling that in depth. Can you tell me why you would shave a reed and how you would do it? I'm just trying to learn more so that I can call better.

Shaving reeds is to make the call perform in certain ways for example : To be more responsive with less air pressure , to have more pop on the high end of the notes, to have more responsiveness for finesse work on the bottom end ect ect.
Shaving is done with a good sharp blade, sharper the better and a hard round stock surface such as the above shown jig...
I shave the outside shoulders and the mid tip of the tongue forward take off a little at a time until you have it to the desired thickness to your blowing style or strength. If you were to shave the whole thing then you might as well go with a thinner stock reed thickness...
